Artist Statement
With my current drawings I wanted to combine drawing & sculpture. I am partial to the gray of metal and graphite and feel they work well together in a sexy kind of way. Conceptually, I want to deepen my understanding of how everything in life is interrelated, and impermanent which is difficult due to it being safer to view myself separate. So, I have been working mostly with imagery from nature due to it’s ability to morph easily from one form to another, in other drawings the two different forms co-exist in the same form. Influences for the work include Waldo Emerson’s writings on nature, Frederick Franck’s use of drawing for Zen meditation, and my own need to express the storms within.
The sculptures are bronze figural studies in expression via posture.
